Change doesn't happen overnight, it happens over time
The compounding effect and why I don't believe in big leaps or 'sudden' quantum shifts anymore.
“Quantum shifts”. “Timeline jumps”. “Manifestation hacks”. You name it… Spiritual community is full of terms that make you feel as if change is something that you have to master. Something that happens quickly and all of a sudden. One day you have nothing, the other day you manifest the life of your dreams.
For a long time I thought I was doing something wrong because I wasn't “quantum shifting”. I thought change was all about big leaps. Those overnight transformations that we see in the movies. I also thought it was about luck: opportunities that came from “nowhere”, doors that magically opened for no apparent reason.
These beliefs made me feel that real, long-lasting change wasn’t for me. Maybe I was doomed to have just an average life, nothing too bad, but also nothing that made me feel real joy and excitement. I became dormant and complacent because every time I thought about change I pictured a big wave swallowing everything it touched. It felt overwhelming. Scary.
And the thing is, in my head, if I wasn’t ready for these big leaps, I wasn’t ready for change at all. So I didn’t even care to try in the first place. I had an “all or nothing” mentality that kept me stuck for most of my adult life. Yes, I wanted change, but I didn’t feel ready to jump off a cliff with no safety net. Which was what I thought change looked like.
Follow the breadcrumbs
When I turned 30, I started to realize that I was completely disconnected from myself. At the time, my identity revolved around my job and my relationship, and my routine was all about repeating the same patterns over and over. To be honest, I felt more like a robot than a human being.
That year something started to shift. Unknowingly at the time, I began to follow the breadcrumbs, to be more focused on what could bring me more joy in my daily life. To stop following along what everyone was doing but to ask myself what I truly wanted to spend my time with. The answers started to appear… Long walks. Yoga sessions. Singing along. Dancing. Learning a new skill. Reading. Being in silence.
No big shifts, no big decisions, just small little mundane actions done over and over again. And then, “all of a sudden”, my life changed “overnight”: I ended the relationship, I resigned, I moved to my own place. From the outside, it looked like a drastic shift, but for me it was just the obvious thing to do. It didn’t feel huge, it felt just right.
And the thing is, what looked like an overnight decision was in fact a compound effect of all the small actions that I took along the way. The ones that felt like “nothing”. Saying no more often. Learning something new. Going for a walk. Moving my body. Talking about my emotions. Not judging myself. Singing in the shower.
By the time I was indeed ready to take those big leaps, my body didn’t perceive it as a threat or something too daunting to cope with, but as something so natural as breathing. Not because I mastered some manifestation hack, but because I became accustomed to changing the little things over time.
Inevitable change
Recently, my life has been changing at a rapid speed. Even though my rational mind wants to convince me otherwise, the evidence is staggering: in less than one year, I resigned from my corporate job to dedicate myself full time to Human Design, I left Lisbon for the first time in almost 20 years, I met people from all over the world who became close friends.
My life and my relationships have radically changed in a way I couldn’t have anticipated one year ago. Not because I woke up one day and decided to do something crazy, but because I’ve committed to the quiet shifts that create change from the inside out. Until one day external change became inevitable and things started to rearrange fast. You could say that I quantum shifted, but I know that it was less about the shift itself and more about the process to get there.
That’s why this is also the approach I have regarding Human Design: I would be lying to you if I told you that your life will magically change after one session. And frankly, it shouldn’t. Because that would put your body in fight or flight mode. Which is the opposite of how I believe Human Design (or any modality really) can help you to create real, long-lasting change.
My role as a Human Design practitioner is to mirror back what your chart is quietly pointing you toward, the seeds you’re being invited to grow, not fast, but consistently. Then it’s up to you to follow the breadcrumbs and allow change to unfold naturally. This is where true transformation happens. No manifestation “hacks” required.
If you’re tired of vain promises that make change feel impossible, or like you’re forever waiting for something that never comes, here are two ways I can help you find the small, practical steps that create real change:
1:1 Human Design Session — a 90-minute live session to look at how your specific design actually shows up in your daily life: your energy, your decisions, your relationships, and the small shifts that can bring you closer to ease.
Personalized Email Guidance — ask me anything, and I’ll connect it to your design, practically, not just conceptually. A personal, written answer within 7 days.

I completely agree with your point that social media wants us to believe that radical change happens quickly. That was not my experience at all.
Change came through all the small decisions I made, the boundaries I set, and the consistent actions I took over time.
I really resonated with your piece, Marta, thank you for writing this.
I loved my first Human Design session with you, it really felt like seeing myself in a mirror from a new perspective :)
Love love love this and the way you explained how those little internal changes lead to the big external shifts is just sooo real and made me reflect how that has been the case in my own life! I already truly adored my first session with you and am looking forward to another one where we can go deeper soon!
